Hello humans!
Welcome to the first issue of Waves & Code, a weekly newsletter/blog centered around the interests of a 90’s kid turned professional Software Engineer. I’m thrilled to have you here as we begin this journey together; exploring the world of tech, riding those open-face waves (or wiping out), and crafting stories in leather.
The vision for this newsletter is to have a standard format that can be expected every week which would look something like this:
Feature Article: The week's main random thought, musing, or discovery.
Dev Insights (if applicable): Any interesting dev content or tools stumbled upon.
Adventures (if applicable): Join me as I share recent adventures or surf experiences as I attempt to transition from an intermediate to the next Kelly Slater
hahaha.Leathercraft Corner (if applicable): I'll take you along on my newest journey into the world of leathercraft.
Favorites this Week: Get ready for quick bullet points sharing the highlights and discoveries from the past week.
Why Waves & Code?
Throughout my life, I’ve alternated between being a learner and a teacher. I’ve (luckily) rarely been afraid of being bad at something. Generally, I saw being bad as an excuse to throw myself into the activity to learn and get better. This has resulted in me having a vast set of interests from astrophysics(my BSc) to snowboarding and a whole host of things in-between.
A common thread woven through all these learning experiences has been a community, whether within a classroom filled with peers, a random subreddit, or a group of strangers turned friends from the local surf spot. Forming a community around shared interests has consistently enhanced the learning experience, making the entire journey more fun & enjoyable. My dream is for Waves & Code to embody this sense of community someday.
My hope for this newsletter is to:
Hold myself accountable to creating & executing my ideas, bridging the gap between ideation and action. (I’ve always just been an “ideas” person.)
Create a space to share my thoughts, passions and experiences with others who might find them helpful or insightful.
Foster a community of like-minded individuals that can learn from one another and experience personal and professional growth together.
Adventures - A whale of a time!
It’s whale season! Headed down the coast this past weekend to catch a peak at these majestic creatures.
I stumbled upon this quote during this weekend's adventure, just when this newsletter was at the forefront of my mind. It felt like a happy coincidence, providing that extra nudge to push ahead with this first issue of Waves & Code :)
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
